Home Maintenance In Minnneapolis in the Fall

Whether you’re a homeowner in Minnetonka or Minneapolis or somewhere in between, you know that winter is coming. The seasons that change are one of the best parts of living in Minnesota. Summer is coming to a close, but next up is Fall and then Winter and if you’re a homeowner that means there are a few maintenance items that your home would benefit from.

Lawn mowing and beautiful grass

Fall Yard Cleanup: Leaves fall and cover your yard and into your garden. It’s important to clean those up before the snow touches down in Minneapolis for a few reasons.

  • Cleaning up the leaves from your yard actually prevents your grass from fungal growth starting and smothering your grass can damage your grass greatly. Another gross fact of not cleaning up your lawn before the winter is pests and rodents will make home underneath the bed of debris in leaving that fall in your yard.
  • Gutter Cleaning – This may seem obvious but the debris that gets caught in your gutters will be catastrophic to the drainage in the fall and then the spring when your snow is melting. Which can end up weighing heavily on your roof and gutters causing damage over time.
  • Lawn Care 101 – removing leaves from your lawn allows your lawn to absorb essential sunlight and nutrients that it would otherwise miss-out  on if it was covered in leaves and other debris. It also allows your lawn to be properly aerated.
  • Curb Appeal – If you were selling your house you would clean up your yard to make sure it looks it’s absolute best for a prospective seller. While not taking care of the fall cleanup your yard desires could be bad, it’s important to remember that if you want you home and yard to look it’s best as well you should be doing a fall cleanup at least once or twice during this season.
